What is the UKMLA CPSA?
The CPSA — Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment — is the practical component of the UK Medical Licensing Assessment. The other component is the AKT, a written test. The CPSA is an OSCE run by the GMC at its Manchester assessment centre.
How is the CPSA different from PLAB 2?
In shape, it is the same exam: 18 stations, 16 scored and 2 rest, about 90 seconds of reading time and 8 minutes per station. The difference is the framework — the CPSA is blueprinted directly to the MLA content map, and it is the practical exam international graduates meet as PLAB aligns with the UKMLA.
What content does the CPSA cover?
Stations are drawn from the MLA content map: common presentations across medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry and general practice — plus professional capabilities like consent, confidentiality, safeguarding and dealing with uncertainty.
Is the CPSA only for international graduates?
No. UK medical students take MLA components within their degrees, and international graduates meet the CPSA on the GMC registration route. OSCEY serves both, plus a general medical-school OSCE track.
Does OSCEY mark against MLA-style domains?
The debrief breaks each station down by domain — data gathering, clinical management, interpersonal skills and technical assessment — mirroring how MLA-style stations are marked. Every score is a practice estimate, never an official result.
Can I use OSCEY for medical school finals?
Yes. The medical-school OSCE track covers the same style of stations at finals level, and the CPSA track adds the full 18-slot circuit with timed rests for the licensing exam.
